Standing proudly on Stockport Viaduct, the two
supporters of the family Coat of Arms are a Jaguar,
Lord Goddard’s favourite car and a Cream Persian
Cat, of which Lady Goddard used to breed. The
Coat of Arms Shield contains a “y“ shape
representing the rivers Tame and Goyt coming
together in Stockport to form the start of the river
Mersey, the maroon edging to blue of the water to
reflect the blue and Maroon of four in a row
Premier League Champions Manchester City F.C.
The hats commemorate Stockport’s unique Hatting
Industry and the green edging for the greenbelt of
the Borough of Stockport. The Town Hall sits on
top with the Unicorn of Robinsons Brewery astride
it. The Motto translates to;

“He conquers who strives”
