David Goddard, Baron Goddard of Stockport, is known for his dedicated service both locally and nationally. Born 2 October 1952, Goddard’s journey into politics was marked by a steadfast commitment to public service and community welfare.
Goddard’s political career commenced in 1990 when he was elected as a member of the Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council. Over the next two decades, he emerged as a formidable force in local governance, earning the trust and respect of constituents through his tireless advocacy and pragmatic leadership. His tenure on the council spanned until 2012, during which he championed numerous initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of life for residents and promoting sustainable development within the borough, culminating an Audit report rating Stockport a four-star improving Council, one of the top 10% councils in the UK. . His last Project being Stockport Exchange the award-winning entrance to Stockport from its Inter -City train Station.
He was ennobled as a Life Peer in the House of Lords on 15 September 2014, assuming the title Baron Goddard of Stockport. This elevation to the peerage reflects not only his distinguished contributions to politics but also his enduring commitment to advancing the principles of liberalism and social justice.
Lord Goddard has supported the Dignity in Dying campaign for over three years and hope the Private Members Bill in the House of Commons is successful.
